Welcoming all Gardeners

Bidford on Avon and District Gardening Society was founded in 1970, and continues today to welcome like-minded members from Bidford and the surrounding villages. With a membership of over 70 we are united by our enjoyment of gardening and listening to, and sharing others’ experiences of gardens and gardening.

We welcome gardeners of all ages and abilities. Whether you have a few pots in a postage-stamp sized plot, a sprawling mature garden or allotment we'll have an event to appeal to you. Membership costs just £19 per year and includes free entry (and refreshments) to all our talks over the year. Visitors are welcome to come and see what
we do for a visitor fee of £4.00 per event.

Bidford on Avon and District Gardening Society is affiliated to The Royal Horticultural Society.

Trips

Each year we organise two day-long outings usually visiting two larger inspirational gardens in the wider area, with a lunch-time pub meal and an evening visit to a more local garden, again followed by refreshments at a nearby hostelry. Trips in previous years include:

  • RHS Wisley

  • Savill Garden and Windsor Great Park

  • Birmingham Botanical Gardens

  • Miserden Garden, Stroud

We also take part in an annual inter-village quiz against four other local Gardening Clubs.

Regular Events

  • Monthly plant stall - We welcome donations of seedlings, cuttings, plants and surplus produce to be sold at our monthly meetings in aid of the Society's funds.

  • Monthly Competitions - Enter our monthly competition and you could win the Competition Cup.

  • Annual Show - Our Annual Show is a real highlight, allowing members to showcase their cultivated plants, vegetables and creations. There are classes for everyone to enter, including pot plants, flowers, shrubs, fruit, vegetables, floral art and more.

Meetings and presentations

Our meetings are held at the Crawford Hall, Salford Road, Bidford-on-Avon, on the third Thursday of every month when we welcome a speaker on a gardening related theme. We gather at 7:15 pm and formally start at 7:30 pm. Visitors are warmly invited to join us for a nominal fee of £4.00 per evening, which includes refreshments.

Our regular guest speakers delve into a rich array of topics, ranging from adventures of plant-hunting in China and the history of Hidcote Manor Gardens, to practical insights into vegetable cultivation, pruning techniques, and the art of seed growth. Other favourites include container gardening, the allure of wildflowers, and our Gardeners’ Question Time. To enhance the experience, many of our presentations are paired with slide shows and hands-on demonstrations.
